We are proud to be Nationwide distributors of Rockdust® which comes from Scottish volcanic rock, rich in minerals and trace elements. Rockdust® has been tried and tested at the Sustainable Ecological Earth Regeneration Centre (SEER Centre) near Pitlochry, Scotland for the past thirteen years.
Research has shown the following benefits of adding Rockdust® to soil:
- increases phosphorus availability
- provides an excellent source of calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, plus trace elements and micronutrients
- increases moisture holding properties in the soil
- improves the cation exchange capacity (see link below for more details)
- improves soil structure and drainage
Rockdust® is a natural mineral product which is produced over many thousands of years by volcanic activity and glacial action. These deposits are mined, dried, and screened for agricultural and horticultural re-mineralization.
Rockdust® can replace key elements that have been depleted from soil over the years. By replacing these missing minerals soil health is increased and this produces healthier plants.
It supplies silicate minerals in a form readily used by soil microbes to create healthy soil. Rockdust® lets the soil re-create the colloids (minerals and humus) which are needed to improve soil structure, moisture holding properties, nutrient availability and bacterial action.
How to apply Rockdust®
Rockdust® can be applied at any time of the year but it needs time to get working with the soil organisms, so don't expect results immediately. Sprinkle Rockdust® as evenly as possible over the area to be planted and lightly rake it into the top 5-10cm of soil.
MINIMUM DOSE
0.5 Kg per square metre
For yearly applications a 20kg bag covers 40 square metres
MAXIMUM DOSE
5 kg per square metre
A 20kg bag covers 4 square metres to be applied every 5-10 years when a decrease in fertility is noticed.
My recommendation is a 20kg bag covers 20 square metres. Applied every year.
